Fright palpitation

Heart palpitation brought on by fright or heart palpitation associated with fear and susceptibility to fright. Fright palpitation is observed in heart-gallbladder qì vacuity, heart blood vacuity, yīn vacuity with effulgent fire, blood stasis, water-rheum, and phlegm-fire patterns.

Medicinal therapy:

• Treat heart-gallbladder qì vacuity with Neutral Supplementing Heart-Settling Elixir (平补镇心丹 píng bǔ zhèn xīn dān) combined with Loadstone and Cinnabar Pill (磁朱丸 cí zhū wán). Alternatively, use Gallbladder-Warming Decoction (温胆汤 wēn dǎn tāng) or Spiny Jujube Decoction (酸枣仁汤 suān zǎo rén tāng).
• Treat heart blood vacuity with Spirit-Quieting Mind-Stabilizing Pill (安神定志丸 ān shén dìng zhì wán) plus amber (Succinum, 琥珀 hǔ pò), loadstone (Magnetitum, 磁石 cí shí), cinnabar (Cinnabaris, 朱砂 zhū shā), mix-fried licorice (Glycyrrhizae Radix, 甘草 gān cǎo), arborvitae seed (Platycladi Semen, 柏子仁 bǎi zǐ rén), schisandra (Schisandrae Fructus, 五味子 wǔ wèi zǐ), and spiny jujube (Ziziphi Spinosi Semen, 酸枣仁 suān zǎo rén).
• Treat yīn vacuity with effulgent fire with Coptis and Ass Hide Glue Decoction (黄连阿胶汤 huáng lián ē jiāo tāng) combined with Anemarrhena, Phellodendron, and Rehmannia Pill (知柏地黄丸 zhī bǎi dì huáng wán) plus spiny jujube (Ziziphi Spinosi Semen, 酸枣仁 suān zǎo rén), mother-of-pearl (Concha Margaritifera, 珍珠母 zhēn zhū mǔ), and oyster shell (Ostreae Concha, 牡蛎 mǔ lì).
• Treat blood stasis with House of Blood Stasis-Expelling Decoction (血府逐瘀汤 xuè fǔ zhú yū tāng).
• Treat water-rheum with Poria, Cinnamon Twig, White Atractylodes, and Licorice Decoction (苓桂朮甘汤 líng guì zhú gān tāng) plus pinellia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 半夏 bàn xià), tangerine peel (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 陈皮 chén pí), fresh ginger (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 生姜 shēng jiāng), polyporus (Polyporus, 猪苓 zhū líng), alisma (Alismatis Rhizoma, 泽泻 zé xiè), dragon bone (Mastodi Ossis Fossilia, 龙骨 lóng gǔ), and oyster shell (Ostreae Concha, 牡蛎 mǔ lì).
• To treat phlegm-fire, use Coptis Gallbladder-Warming Decoction (黄连温胆汤 huáng lián wēn dǎn tāng) plus gardenia (Gardeniae Fructus, 山栀子 shān zhī zǐ), scutellaria (Scutellariae Radix, 黄芩 huáng qín), fritillaria (Fritillariae Bulbus, 贝母 bèi mǔ), trichosanthes (Trichosanthis Fructus, 栝楼 guā lóu), spiny jujube (Ziziphi Spinosi Semen, 酸枣仁 suān zǎo rén), mother-of-pearl (Concha Margaritifera, 珍珠母 zhēn zhū mǔ), oyster shell (Ostreae Concha, 牡蛎 mǔ lì), and abalone shell (Haliotidis Concha, 石决明 shí jué míng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on HT and LR. Main points: HT-7 (Spirit Gate, 神门 shén mén), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), BL-15 (Heart Transport, 心俞 xīn shù).

• For heart-gallbladder qì vacuity, add BL-19 (Gallbladder Transport, 胆俞 dǎn shù), GB-34 (Yáng Mound Spring, 阳陵泉 yáng líng quán), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ); needle with supplementation.
• For insufficiency of heart blood, add ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), and HT-5 (Connecting Lǐ, 通里 tōng lǐ), needling with supplementation.
• For yīn vacuity with effulgent fire, add BL-14 (Reverting yīn (jué yīn) Transport, 厥阴俞 jué yīn shù), BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), and KI-3 (Great Ravine, 太溪 tài xī), needling with even supplementation and drainage.
• For blood stasis, add CV-17 (Chest Center, 膻中 shān zhōng), BL-17 (Diaphragm Transport, 膈俞 gé shù), SP-10 (Sea of Blood, 血海 xuè hǎi), and LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), needling with even supplementation and drainage.
• For water-rheum collecting internally, add CV-17 (Chest Center, 膻中 shān zhōng), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), needling with even supplementation and drainage.
• For phlegm-fire stirring internally, add LU-5 (Cubit Marsh, 尺泽 chǐ zé), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), and ST-40 (Bountiful Bulge, 丰隆 fēng lóng), needling with drainage.
