PC-6 Inner Pass

内关 〔內關〕 nèi guān

Channel: PC, hand reverting yīn (jué yīn) pericardium channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the palmar aspect of the forearm, 2 cùn proximal to the wrist crease, between the tendons of the palmaris longus and the flexor carpi radialis muscles.

Classical location: Between the sinews two cùn behind the wrist, at the point opposite to Outer Pass (TB-5). From The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成 zhēn jiǔ dà chéng)

Local anatomy: See PC-5.

Action: Clears heat and eliminates vexation; loosens the chest and rectifies qì; downbears counterflow and checks vomiting; harmonizes the stomach and relieves pain.

Modern indications: Heart pain; heart palpitation; oppression in the chest; stomach pain; retching and vomiting; epilepsy; febrile disease; malarial disease; impediment pain of the upper limbs; hemiplegia; insomnia; dizziness; hemilateral headache.

Classical indications: Stomach reflux; spleen-stomach disharmony; retching and vomiting; diseases of the chest and ribs; hot, red face; red eyes; prolapse of the rectum; forgetfulness and derangement; glomus lump; concretions; wind stroke; chest bind; cold damage; chest and rib-side pain in women.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5‒2.0 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3‒5 cones; pole 5‒15 min.

Needle sensation: Distension and numbness, sometimes spreading down to the hand or up to the elbow or armpit.

Point groups: Network (luò) point; confluence (bā mài jiāo huì) point of the yīn linking vessel (yīn wéi mài).
