Category: Water-disinhibiting dampness-percolating agents / Water-disinhibiting swelling-dispersing agents
Properties: Sweet, bland; cold.
Channel entry: Kidney and bladder channels.
Indications:
- Disinhibits water and percolates dampness, drains heat: Water swelling, inhibited urination, diarrhea, strangury, vaginal discharge, and phlegm-rheum.
- Drains bladder heat and kidney channel vacuity fire: Damp-heat strangury; seminal emission.
Dosage & Method: Oral: 5–10g in decoctions.
Warnings: Caution is advised for patients concurrently using diuretic drugs because Zé xiè has a diuretic effect.

Etymology: The name zé xiè 泽泻, literally marsh draining,
is a reminder that this plant grows at the side of marshes and has a water-draining action.
