ST-40 Bountiful Bulge

丰隆 〔豐隆〕fēng lóng

Channel: ST, Foot Yáng Brightness (yáng míng) Stomach Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the lower leg, 8 cùn inferior to ST-35 (dú bí), about 1 cùn lateral to ST-38 (tiáo kǒu).

Classic location: Bountiful Bulge (ST-40) lies upward and outward from Lower Great Hollow (ST-39), eight cùn above the outer anklebone, in a depression on the outer face of the lower leg bone. (Yī Zōng Jīn Jiàn)

Local anatomy: Branches of the anterior tibial artery and vein. The superficial peroneal nerve.

Action: Harmonizes the stomach; transforms phlegm-dampness; clears the spirit-mind.

Modern indications: Headache; dizziness; cough with copious phlegm; retching and vomiting; constipation; water swelling; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; mania and withdrawal; epilepsy.

Classic indications: Qì counterflow; throat impediment (hóu bì) and fulminant loss of voice; network vessel repletion with mania and withdrawal; network vessel vacuity with non-contraction of legs and wilting of the calves; retching and vomiting; constipation; leg qì (jiǎo qì, beriberi); reversal headache; heart vexation; swelling of the face; swelling of the limbs; enduring amenorrhea; phlegm diseases.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5‒1.0 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 7‒15 cones; pole 5‒20 min.

Point groups: Network point (luò xué).
