Ingredients

• Cí shí (磁石 Magnetitum , loadstone) 200g
• Zhū shā gēn (朱砂根 Ardisiae Crenatae Radix, coral ardisia [root]) 100g
• Shén qū (神曲 Massa Medicata Fermentata , medicated leaven) 75g

Actions: Quiets the spirit with heavy settlers; brightens the eyes.

Indications: Heart palpitation, insomnia, headache, dizziness, tinnitus, deafness, blurred vision, and epilepsy.

Dosage: 3–6g with water on an empty stomach in the morning.

Rationale: Cí shí (magnetite) contains floating yáng. Zhū shā settles the heart and quiets the spirit. Shén qū harmonizes the stomach and helps digestion, making sure that the mineral agents do not harm stomach qì. In the A Thousand Gold Pieces Prescriptions (qiān jīn fāng), this formula was called chenxiangwan.

Variations:

• Heart palpitation, insomnia, tinnitus, flowery vision, dilation of the pupils: Take with liuweidihuangwan prepared as a decoction.
• Eye diseases: Add zhujingwan or variants.
• Epilepsy with copious phlegm: Combine with phlegm-dispelling formulas.
