Yáng summerheat

阳暑 〔陽暑〕yáng shǔ

1. Summerheat damage from contraction of summerheat-heat through strenuous activity in the sun. Yáng summerheat is characterized by headache, vexation and agitation, great heat [effusion], great thirst, great sweating, a floating pulse, and panting or shortness of breath.

Medicinal therapy: Clear summerheat using formulas such as White Tiger Decoction (白虎汤 bái hǔ tāng) or White Tiger Decoction Plus Ginseng (白虎加人参汤 bái hǔ jiā rén shēn tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on LI, BL, CV, and GV. Main points: PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ); needle with drainage.

Point selection according to signs: For headache, add GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì) and GB-20 (Wind Pool, 风池 fēng chí). For vexation and agitation, add HT-5 (Connecting Lǐ, 通里 tōng lǐ) and HT-7 (Spirit Gate, 神门 shén mén). For great heat [effusion], add GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī) and LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí). For great thirst, add KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi) and TB-2 (Humor Gate, 液门 yè mén). For great sweating, add KI-7 (Recover Flow, 复溜 fù liū) and SI-3 (Back Ravine, 后溪 hòu xī).

2. Summerheat stroke.
