Flesh goiter
肉瘿 〔肉癭〕 ròu yǐng
A disease manifesting in single or multiple swellings of the neck below the skin that have the appearance of upturned cups, soft and spongy to the touch, that never rupture, and that may be associated with sweating, oppression in the chest and heart palpitation. Flesh goiter is attributed to binding depression damaging the spleen preventing the normal movement of spleen qì.
Biomedical correspondence: thyroid tumor; tuberculous goiter.
Medicinal therapy: Treat by opening depression and transforming phlegm, assisted by softening hardness. Use
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on CV, GB, TB, and ST. Select TB-13 (Upper Arm Convergence, 臑会 nào huì), LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), TB-6 (Branch Ditch, 支沟 zhī gōu), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), ST-40 (Bountiful Bulge, 丰隆 fēng lóng), CV-22 (Celestial Chimney, 天突 tiān tú), SI-17 (Celestial Countenance, 天容 tiān róng), and LI-17 (Celestial Tripod, 天鼎 tiān dǐng); needle with even supplementation and drainage. Point selection according to signs: For copious sweat, add HT-6 (Yīn Cleft, 阴郄 yīn xī). For heart palpitation, add HT-7 (Spirit Gate, 神门 shén mén). For oppression in the chest, add PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān) and CV-17 (Chest Center, 膻中 shān zhōng).
