Swift digestion with rapid hungering

Also increased eating and rapid hungering. Increased appetite with recurrence of hunger sensation shortly after eating. Swift digestion with rapid hungering is the chief sign, but in itself is not necessarily an indication, of center dispersion. If this gives rise to a in increase in food intake, it is called increased eating with rapid hungering.

Biomedical correspondence: observed in diabetes mellitus and hyperthyroidism.

Patterns

Intense stomach fire (胃火炽盛 wèi huǒ chì shèng) which results from externally contracted dryness-heat or liver depression transforming into fire and invading the stomach, causes swift digestion and rapid hungering with emaciation, thirst, constipation, dry yellow tongue fur, red tongue, and a forceful slippery pulse.

Medicinal therapy: Clear heat and enrich yīn. Use White Tiger Decoction Plus Ginseng (白虎加人参汤 bái hǔ jiā rén shēn tāng) plus coptis (Coptidis Rhizoma, 黄连 huáng lián), and dried/fresh rehmannia (Rehmanniae Radix, 生地黄 shēng dì huáng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on ST and LI. Select ST-44 (Inner Court, 内庭 nèi tíng), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), and KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi); needle with drainage.

Point selection according to causes: For externally contracted dryness-heat, add LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí) and LU-5 (Cubit Marsh, 尺泽 chǐ zé). For liver depression transforming into fire, add LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), LR-2 (Moving Between, 行间 xíng jiān), and GB-43 (Pinched Ravine, 侠溪 xiá xī),

Yáng brightness (yáng míng) blood amassment (太阳蓄血 tài yáng xuè xuè) causes swift digestion and rapid hungering accompanied by heat effusion without aversion to cold, dry throat and mouth, desire to wash the mouth but not to swallow fluids, forgetfulness, hard fullness in the lesser abdomen, uninhibited urination, black stool that is passed easily despite its hardness, dull lips and complexion, red tongue possibly with stasis macules, and a rapid bound sunken pulse.

Medicinal therapy: Expel amassed blood with Dead-On Decoction (抵当汤 dǐ dàng tāng) or Dead-On Pill (抵当丸 dǐ dàng wán).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on ST, SP, and LI. Select BL-17 (Diaphragm Transport, 膈俞 gé shù), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), LI-6 (Veering Passageway, 偏历 piān lì), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), SP-10 (Sea of Blood, 血海 xuè hǎi), and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo); needle with even supplementation and drainage.
