GB-43 Pinched Ravine

侠溪 〔俠谿〕xiá xī

Channel: GB, Foot Lesser Yáng (shào yáng) Gallbladder Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the dorsal aspect of the foot, proximal to the margin of the web between the fourth and fifth toes, level with the metatarsophalangeal (mtp) articulation of the fourth toe.

Classic location: In front of the base joints of the little toe and the one next to it, in the depression in the fork of the bones. (Zhēn Jiǔ Dà Chéng)

Local anatomy: The dorsal digital artery and vein. The dorsal digital nerve.

Action: Clears heat; extinguishes wind; relieves pain.

Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision; tinnitus; deafness; painful red swollen eyes; rib-side pain; febrile disease; mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng).

Classic indications: Absence of sweating in febrile disease; tearing; deafness; expectoration of blood; chest pain that prevents turning sides; manic disease; menstrual stoppage; swollen or burst mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng).

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.2‒0.3 cùn upward oblique or perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 2‒3 cones; pole 3‒5 min.

Point groups: Spring (yíng) (water) point.
