Eye discharge

目眵 〔目眵〕mù chī

Thick sticky turbid substance collecting around the canthi and eyelid rims in eye diseases such as wind-fire eye. Small amounts discovered on waking can be normal (often referred to as sleep in English). Copious eye discharge, which may be associated with redness, soreness, or itching, is a sign of evils such as wind-fire, dampness, or damp-heat affecting the eyes. See wind-fire eye.
