Wind-fire eye

Also fire eye; wind-heat eye; wind-heat red eye. Sore red dry eyes with aversion to light, copious discharge, and hot tears, sometimes accompanied by heat effusion and headache. Serious contagious cases caused by fulminant wind-heat with pronounced heat toxin signs are called epidemic red eye.

Biomedical correspondence: acute conjunctivitis.

Medicinal therapy: Course wind and clear heat. Use Wind-Expelling Heat-Dispersing Drink (驱风散热饮子 qū fēng sàn rè yǐn zi). Dandelion (Taraxaci Herba, 蒲公英 pú gōng yīng) can be decocted to make a steam-wash.

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on BL, LI, and GB. Select GB-20 (Wind Pool, 风池 fēng chí), BL-1 (Bright Eyes, 睛明 jīng míng), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí), and TB-5 (Outer Pass, 外关 wài guān); needle with drainage, and prick Greater yáng (tài yáng) (太阳 tài yáng), GV-23 (Upper Star, 上星 shàng xīng), and LU-11 (Lesser Shang, 少商 shào shāng), to bleed.
