Sudden bleeding via the vagina unassociated with menstruation. Fulminant flooding arises when sudden anger damages the liver or knocks or falls damage the thoroughfare (chōng) and controlling (rèn) vessels, and thus cause frenetic movement of the blood.

Medicinal therapy: Stanch bleeding with Ten Cinders Powder (十灰散 shí huī sǎn), as well as with Pure Ginseng Decoction (独参汤 dú shēn tāng). When the bleeding has subsided, treat according to pattern identification for flooding and spotting.

Acumoxatherapy:

• Emergency management to stop the bleeding: Base treatment mainly on CV and SP. Select GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), SP-10 (Sea of Blood, 血海 xuè hǎi), SP-1 (Hidden White, 隐白 yǐn bái), and SP-2 (Great Metropolis, 大都 dà dū), needling with supplementation.
• When bleeding subsides, treat according to pattern:
  • For sudden anger damaging the liver, add to the above points LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), LR-13 (Camphorwood Gate, 章门 zhāng mén), TB-6 (Branch Ditch, 支沟 zhī gōu), and BL-18 (Liver Transport, 肝俞 gān shù), needling with drainage.
  • For knocks, falls or sprains damaging the PV and CV, add SP-8 (Earth’s Crux, 地机 dì jī), ST-30 (Qì Thoroughfare, 气冲 qì chōng), SP-12 (Surging Gate, 冲门 chōng mén), and LR-2 (Moving Between, 行间 xíng jiān), needling with even supplementation and drainage.
