Any abnormal discharge of blood via the vagina. Flooding bēng is heavy menstrual flow or abnormal bleeding via the vagina (uterine bleeding); spotting lòu, lit. leaking
in Chinese, is a slight, often continual discharge of blood via the vagina. If the flow is deep red and clotted, it is usually a sign of heat. Since each may give way to the other, they are commonly referred to together. Flooding and spotting usually occur in puberty or at menopause.
