Blood stasis flooding and spotting

血瘀崩漏 〔血瘀崩漏〕xuè yū bēng lòu

Flooding and spotting (abnormal discharge of blood via the vagina) due to static blood, which arises when internal damage by the seven affects or externally contracted evils cause static blood to collect before menstrual or postpartum blood has been fully discharged so that static blood fails to be discharged and new blood fails to stay in the channels. Blood stasis flooding and spotting is characterized by either a sometimes scant, sometimes copious flow or by a dribbling inhibited flow that is dark in color, and thick and clotted in consistency. It is accompanied by abdominal pain exacerbated by pressure and relieved by the passing of clots.

Medicinal therapy: Quicken the blood and move stasis using Hand-of-Buddha Powder (佛手散 fó shǒu sǎn), Sudden Smile Powder (失笑散 shī xiào sǎn), or Leonurus (Motherwort) Paste (益母草膏 yì mǔ cǎo gāo).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on CV and SP. Select CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), SP-1 (Hidden White, 隐白 yǐn bái), SP-8 (Earth’s Crux, 地机 dì jī), ST-30 (Qì Thoroughfare, 气冲 qì chōng), and SP-12 (Surging Gate, 冲门 chōng mén); needle with drainage.
