ST-30 Qì Thoroughfare

气冲 〔氣衝〕qì chōng

Alternate names: 气街 qì jiē, Qi Street; 羊屎 yáng shǐ, Sheep's Droppings

Channel: ST, Foot Yáng Brightness (yáng míng) Stomach Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the smaller abdomen, level with the superior border of the pubic bone, 2 cùn lateral to the midline.

Classic location: One cùn below Return (ST-29), two cùn either side of the midline, in the depression where a pulsating vessels can be felt, at the starting point of the thoroughfare (chōng) vessel. (Zhēn Jiǔ Dà Chéng)

Local anatomy: Branches of the superficial epigastric artery and vein; laterally the inferior epigastric artery and vein. The pathway of the ilioinguinal nerve.

Action: Soothes the liver and boosts the kidney; regulates menstruation and plants seed (i.e., promotes fertility).

Modern indications: Rumbling intestines; abdominal pain; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); menstrual irregularities; infertility; impotence; swelling of the genitalia.

Classic indications: Mounting (shàn) pain and sagging; running piglet (bēn tún); failure to conceive; fullness in the rib-side; abdominal pain; fulminant abdominal distension and fullness; prolapse of the rectum; pain and weakness (in the shins); urinary stoppage; heat strangury (rè lìn); stone water; difficult lactation; fetus surging up into the heart causing pain that makes rest difficult; impotence; spleen-stomach vacuity; rumbling intestines.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5‒1.0 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3‒7 cones; pole 5‒15 min.

Point groups: Intersection point (jiāo huì xué) of the stomach channel and thoroughfare vessel.
