SP-1 Hidden White

隐白 〔隱白〕 yǐn bái

Alternate names: 鬼垒 guǐ lěi, Ghost Pile; 鬼眼 guǐ yǎn, Ghost Eye; 阴白 yīn bái, Yin White; 足太阴所出 zú tài yīn suǒ chū,

Channel: SP, foot greater yīn (tài yīn) spleen channel

Modern location: An acupoint located a little more than 1 fēn below the base of the nail on the medial side of the big toe.

Classical location: On the inner side of the big toe, the width of a garlic chive leaf from the corner of the nail. From The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成 zhēn jiǔ dà chéng)

Local anatomy: The dorsal digital artery. On the anastomosis of the dorsal digital nerve derived from the superficial peroneal nerve and the plantar digital proprial nerve.

Action: Regulates and manages the blood; warms and supplements the spleen; clears the heart and stabilizes the spirit; warms yáng and returns counterflow.

Modern indications: Abdominal distention; bloody stool; bloody urine; menstrual irregularities; flooding and spotting; mania and withdrawal; profuse dreaming; fright wind.

Classical indications: Panting; cold qì in the abdomen; intestinal heat with fulminant diarrhea; febrile disease with persistent nosebleed; heart vexation, sighing, sorrowfulness; cold in the foot and lower leg; oppressive ghost dreams; persistent menstruation; vomiting of blood (blood ejection); bloody stool and bloody urine; chronic child fright wind.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.1 cùn upward oblique insertion. Moxa: 3‒7 cones; pole 5‒20 min.

Needle sensation: Localized pain.

Point groups: Well (jǐng) (wood) point; one of the thirteen ghost points.
