SP-2 Great Metropolis

大都 〔大都〕dà dū

Alternate names: 足太阴所流 zú tài yīn suǒ liú,

Channel: SP, Foot Greater Yīn (tài yīn) Spleen Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the medial aspect of the big toe, immediately distal to the first metatarsophalangeal (mtp) joint, at the border of the red and white flesh.

Classic location: On the inner side of the big toe, on the border of the red and white flesh, in the depression formed by the cleft of the bone distal to the base joint. (Zhēn Jiǔ Dà Chéng)

Local anatomy: Branches of the medial plantar artery and vein. The plantar digital proprial nerve derived from the medial plantar nerve.

Action: Fortifies the spleen and harmonizes the stomach; returns yáng and stems counterflow.

Modern indications: Abdominal distension; stomach pain; vomiting; constipation; febrile disease.

Classic indications: Heat (febrile) disease with sweating and reversal; cold hands and feet; fulminant diarrhea; nontransformation of food (undigested food in the stool); retching counterflow; difficult defecation; all forms of dysentery; lumbar pain; heart vexation when hungry and dizziness when satiated.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.3 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 1‒3 cones; pole 5‒20 min.

Point groups: Spring (yíng) (fire) point.
