- Chì sháo (赤芍 Paeoniae Radix Rubra, red peony [root]) 10g
- Dān pí (丹皮 Moutan Cortex, moutan [bark]) 10g
- Xuán shēn (玄参 Scrophulariae Radix, scrophularia [root]) 15g
- Zhī mǔ (知母 Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, anemarrhena [root]) 10g

Method: First four ingredients may be varied considerably to adjust the strength of the formula.

Constipation : Add Dà huáng (大黄 Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, rhubarb) and Máng xiāo (芒硝 Natrii Sulfas , mirabilite).- Dark purple macules due to intense
heat toxin : Add Bǎn lán gēn (板蓝根 Isatidis Radix, isatis root) and Zǐ cǎo (紫草 Arnebiae/Lithospermi Radix, arnebia/lithospermum).
