Properties: Acrid and bitter; cool; nontoxic*.

Channel entry: liver, spleen, and bladder channels.

Indications:

Clears heat and disinhibits dampness.

damp-heat jaundice; inhibited urination; itchy wind sores and scab (jiè).

Dosage & Method:

Oral: Decoct (9–15g). Topical: Decoct as a wash.

Warning:

Contraindicated in jaundice not due to damp-heat.

Quality:

The best quality is soft, green, with a strong aroma.

Product Area:

Shǎnxī (Shaanxi), Shānxī, ānhuī, and less importantly Shāndōng, Jiāngsū, Húběi, Hénán, Sìchuān, Gānsū, and Fújiàn.
