Yáng rigidity

阳强 〔陽強〕yáng qiáng

Also yīn rigidity; yīn protrusion (1); rigid center; rigidity of the penis; persistent erection. Abnormal persistent erection accompanied by tenderness of the penis and in some cases persistent discharge of semen. Yáng rigidity is called rigid center especially when there is discharge of semen.

Patterns

Liver-gallbladder repletion fire (肝胆实火 gān dǎn shí huǒ) gives rise to yáng rigidity when it passes along the liver vessel to the ancestral sinew and scorches the genitals. The main signs are lasting erections and tenderness accompanied by rash temperament and red face. Secondary signs include dizziness, bitter taste in the mouth, and dry throat.

Medicinal therapy: Clear the liver and drain fire; enrich yīn and soften hardness. Use Chinese Angelica, Gentian, and Aloe Pill (当归龙荟丸 dāng guī lóng huì wán).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on LR and HT. Select BL-18 (Liver Transport, 肝俞 gān shù), LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), HT-8 (Lesser Mansion, 少府 shào fǔ), ST-44 (Inner Court, 内庭 nèi tíng), and HT-7 (Spirit Gate, 神门 shén mén); needle with drainage.

Liver-gallbladder damp-heat (肝胆湿热 gān dǎn shī rè) gives rise to yáng rigidity when it obstructs the liver vessel and blocks the network vessels of the penis. The signs are unabating erection and tenderness, accompanied by dizzy head and a feeling of distension of the brain, nausea, fullness and distension in the chest and abdomen, cumbersome fatigued limbs, bitter taste in the mouth, and scant yellow or reddish urine.

Medicinal therapy: Clear heat and disinhibit dampness; soften hardness and free binds. Gentian Liver-Draining Decoction (龙胆泻肝汤 lóng dǎn xiè gān tāng) made into pills.

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on LR, SP, and CV. Select LR-2 (Moving Between, 行间 xíng jiān), LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), SP-9 (Yīn Mound Spring, 阴陵泉 yīn líng quán), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), CV-3 (Central Pole, 中极 zhōng jí), and BL-28 (Bladder Transport, 膀胱俞 páng guāng shù); needle with drainage.

Yīn vacuity with yáng hyperactivity (阴虚阳亢 yīn xū yáng kàng) yáng rigidity arises when excessive sexual indulgence causes damage true yīn so that it no longer constrains yáng, and unrestrained yáng causes invigoration of the ancestral sinew. In the past, it was also caused by excessive consumption of elixir minerals. The main signs are unabating erection with persistent discharge of semen. Secondary signs include dizzy head and tinnitus, limp aching lumus and knees, vexing heat in the five hearts, dry mouth, and night sweating.

Medicinal therapy: Enrich yīn and clear heat; subdue hang and soften hardness. Use All-the-Way-Through Brew (一贯煎 yī guàn jiān).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on KI, LR, and CV. Select KI-3 (Great Ravine, 太溪 tài xī), KI-5 (Water Spring, 水泉 shuǐ quán), KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi), LR-2 (Moving Between, 行间 xíng jiān), LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), CV-3 (Central Pole, 中极 zhōng jí), and CV-2 (Curved Bone, 曲骨 qū gǔ); needle with even supplementation and drainage.
