Splenic movement and transformation failure

脾失健运 〔脾失健運〕pí shī jiàn yùn

Also spleen failing to move and transform. A condition in which the spleen ceases to perform its movement and transformation function normally. The spleen governs movement and transformation, and when spleen yáng is vacuous, the spleen fails to move and transform and cannot upbear the clear. In mild cases, abdominal distension, torpid intake, rumbling intestines, diarrhea and other signs of poor digestion are observed. In enduring conditions, the face becomes yellow, the flesh becomes emaciation, and limbs lack in strength. If the spleen fails to move and transform water-damp, either there is either puffy swelling of the limbs or phlegm or rheum develops.

Medicinal therapy: Fortify the spleen and boost qì. Use variations of Aucklandia and Amomum Six Gentlemen Decoction (香砂六君子汤 xiāng shā liù jūn zǐ tāng) or Ginseng, Poria, and White Atractylodes Powder (参苓白朮散 shēn líng bái zhú sǎn).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on back transport points, CV, SP, and ST. Select BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), BL-21 (Stomach Transport, 胃俞 wèi shù), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), SP-4 (Yellow Emperor, 公孙 gōng sūn), and LR-13 (Camphorwood Gate, 章门 zhāng mén); needle with supplementation and add moxa.

Point selection according to signs: For diarrhea, add ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū). For abdominal distension, PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), and CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi). For the spleen fails to move and transform water-damp, add SP-9 (Yīn Mound Spring, 阴陵泉 yīn líng quán), ST-40 (Bountiful Bulge, 丰隆 fēng lóng), and LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ). See spleen disease.
