Splenic pure heat

脾瘅 〔脾癉〕 pí dān

Heat in the spleen from eating sweet and fatty foods, causing upflow of hot turbid qì. Splenic pure heat is characterized by a sweet taste in the mouth with a slimy sensation.

Medicinal therapy: Repel turbidity with aroma. Use Basil Drink (兰香饮子 lán xiāng yǐn zi). A slippery stringlike pulse with clamoring stomach and sweet taste in the mouth is a sign of phlegm-damp, which is treated with Phlegm-Rolling Pill (滚痰丸 gǔn tán wán). Sweet taste in the mouth due to spleen-stomach vacuity heat preventing retention of fluids is treated by supplementing spleen qì with Center-Supplementing Qì-Boosting Decoction (补中益气汤 bǔ zhōng yì qì tāng).
