Spleen impediment

脾痹 〔脾痹〕pí bì

An impediment () pattern developing from long-standing flesh impediment when further contraction of evils or dietary irregularities cause damage to the spleen. Spleen impediment is characterized by slothfulness of the limbs, vomiting of clear fluid, oppression in the chest and qì stagnation, abdominal distension, no desire for food and drink, and cough.

Medicinal therapy: Boost qì and warm the center; fortify the spleen and disperse food. Appropriate formulas include Unripe Bitter Orange and Glomus-Dispersing Pill (枳实消痞丸 zhǐ shí xiāo pǐ wán) and Ginseng, Poria, and White Atractylodes Powder (参苓白朮散 shēn líng bái zhú sǎn).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on CV, SP, and ST. Select BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), LR-13 (Camphorwood Gate, 章门 zhāng mén), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), SP-4 (Yellow Emperor, 公孙 gōng sūn), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi); and Lǐ Inner Court (里内庭 lǐ nèi tíng); needle with supplementation and add moxa.
