Chronic spleen wind

慢脾风 〔慢脾風〕màn pí fēng

A disease pattern in young children arising when excessive vomiting or diarrhea weakens right qì, causing closed eyes and shaking head, dark green-blue face and lips, sweating brow, clouded spirit, hypersomnia, reversal cold of the limbs, and wriggling of the extremities. It is a form of chronic fright wind characterized by spleen yīn vacuity and spleen yáng debilitation.

Medicinal therapy: Warm the center and supplement the spleen; secure the root and restore yáng. Administer Ginseng and Aconite Decoction (参附汤 shēn fù tāng) in frequent small doses, and later use Aconite Center-Rectifying Decoction (附子理中汤 fù zǐ lǐ zhōng tāng) with additional medicinals.

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on CV, ST, and LR. Select BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), LR-13 (Camphorwood Gate, 章门 zhāng mén), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), and LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng); needle with supplementation and a large amount of moxa.
