Mania during menstruation characterized by deranged spirit-mind, hallucination, manic or delirious raving, and in severe cases, loss of consciousness. Menstrual mania attributed to vexation and anger causing counterflow and derangement of liver qì that carries the blood upward to attack the heart.
Medicinal therapy: Soothe the liver and quiet the heart with musk (Moschus, 麝香shè xiāng), cinnabar (Cinnabaris, 朱砂zhū shā), licorice (Glycyrrhizae Radix, 甘草gān cǎo), costusroot (Aucklandiae Radix, 木香mù xiāng), ginseng (Ginseng Radix, 人参rén shēn), root poria (Poria cum Pini Radice, 茯神fú shén), platycodon (Platycodonis Radix, 桔梗jié gěng), bupleurum (Bupleuri Radix, 柴胡chái hú), and polygala (Polygalae Radix, 远志yuǎn zhì).
