Kidney vacuity infertility

肾虚不孕 〔腎虛不孕〕shèn xū bù yùn

Female infertility arising when insufficiency of kidney qì or damage to kidney qì by enduring sickness or sexual taxation causes depletion of essence-blood that deprives the thoroughfare (chōng) and controlling (rèn) vessels of nourishment and reduces receptivity to male essence (sperm). Kidney vacuity infertility is associated with lassitude of essence-spirit, dizzy head and tinnitus, aching lumbus and limp legs, and menstrual irregularities.

Medicinal therapy: Warm the kidney and regulate menstruation; regulate the thoroughfare (chōng) and controlling (rèn) vessels. Use Unicorn-Rearing Pill (毓麟珠 yù lín zhū). If insufficiency of kidney yáng (physical cold and cold limbs, cold feeling in the smaller abdomen) is prominent, psoralea (Psoraleae Fructus, 补骨脂 bǔ gǔ zhī), morinda (Morindae Officinalis Radix, 巴戟天 bā jǐ tiān), cinnamon bark (Cinnamomi Cortex, 肉桂 ròu guì), and aconite (Aconiti Radix Lateralis Praeparata, 附子 fù zǐ) can be added. If the emphasis is on insufficiency of kidney yīn (reddening of the cheeks and lips, tidal heat, and night sweating), this formula can be combined with Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Decoction (六味地黄汤 liù wèi dì huáng tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: For kidney yáng vacuity, base treatment on back transport points, GV, CV, KI, and ST. Select BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), GV-4 (Life Gate, 命门 mìng mén), CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán), KI-3 (Great Ravine, 太溪 tài xī), CV-3 (Central Pole, 中极 zhōng jí), CV-7 (Yin Intersection, 阴交 yīn jiāo), CV-2 (Curved Bone, 曲骨 qū gǔ), ST-29 (Return, 归来 guī lái), and KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi); needle with supplementation and large amounts of moxa.
