Kidney vacuity headache
肾虚头痛 〔腎虛頭痛〕 shèn xū tóu tòng
Headache attributed to kidney vacuity and insufficiency of the sea of marrow. Kidney vacuity headache may be due to kidney yáng or kidney yīn vacuity.
Patterns
Kidney yáng vacuity (肾阳虚 shèn yáng xū) patterns are marked by aversion to cold, lack of warmth in the limbs, white facial complexion, pale tongue and a fine sunken pulse.
Medicinal therapy: Warm and supplement kidney yáng using variations of
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment for both kidney yáng vacuity and kidney yīn vacuity mainly on back transport points and KI. Main points: GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì), GB-19 (Brain Hollow, 脑空 nǎo kōng), BL-2 (Bamboo Gathering, 攒竹 zǎn zhú), BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), KI-3 (Great Ravine, 太溪 tài xī), and GB-39 (Severed Bone, 绝骨 jué gǔ). Supplement GV-4 (Life Gate, 命门 mìng mén), CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán), and KI-7 (Recover Flow, 复溜 fù liū) to address kidney yáng vacuity, and apply moxa.
Kidney yīn vacuity (肾阴虚 shèn yīn xū) is marked by an empty feeling in the head, dizziness, tinnitus, lack of strength in the lumbus and knees, red tongue, and fine pulse.
Medicinal therapy: Enrich kidney yīn using formulas such as
