Fire stroke

火中 〔火中〕huǒ zhòng

A condition similar to wind stroke, characterized by sudden clouding collapse (clouding of consciousness and collapse), loss of consciousness, inability to speak, deviated eyes and mouth, red facial complexion, vexation and agitation, and constipation. Fire stroke is usually attributed to fulminant heart fire harassing the heart spirit, or less commonly to kidney yīn vacuity with vacuity fire flaming upward.

Medicinal therapy: For fulminant heart fire harassing the heart spirit, clear the heart and drain fire; free the orifices and quiet the spirit. Use formulas such as Bovine Bezoar Heart-Clearing Pill (牛黄清心丸 niú huáng qīng xīn wán) or Diaphragm-Cooling Powder (凉膈散 liáng gé sǎn). For kidney yīn vacuity with vacuity fire flaming upward, enrich water to constrain fire. Use Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill (六味地黄丸 liù wèi dì huáng wán). If there is copious phlegm, use variations of Fritillaria and Trichosanthes Powder (贝母栝蒌散 bèi mǔ guā lóu sǎn).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on GV, LI, hand and foot reverting yīn (jué yīn) PC/LR, and HT. Main points: GV-26 (Water Trough, 水沟 shuǐ gōu), GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì), PC-9 (Central Hub, 中冲 zhōng chōng), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), LR-2 (Moving Between, 行间 xíng jiān), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), KI-1 (Gushing Spring, 湧泉 yǒng quán), and GB-34 (Yáng Mound Spring, 阳陵泉 yáng líng quán); needle with drainage. Prick HT-8 (Lesser Mansion, 少府 shào fǔ) to bleed.
