Fire stroke
火中 〔火中〕huǒ zhòng
A condition similar to wind stroke, characterized by sudden clouding collapse (clouding of consciousness and collapse), loss of consciousness, inability to speak, deviated eyes and mouth, red facial complexion, vexation and agitation, and constipation. Fire stroke is usually attributed to fulminant heart fire harassing the heart spirit, or less commonly to kidney yīn vacuity with vacuity fire flaming upward.
Medicinal therapy: For fulminant heart fire harassing the heart spirit, clear the heart and drain fire; free the orifices and quiet the spirit. Use formulas such as
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on GV, LI, hand and foot reverting yīn (jué yīn) PC/LR, and HT. Main points:
- For fulminant heart fire, add
PC-8 (Palace of Toil, 劳宫 láo gōng) andHT-7 (Spirit Gate, 神门 shén mén), and needle with drainage. - For vacuity fire flaming upward, add
KI-3 (Great Ravine, 太溪 tài xī),KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi), andKI-2 (Blazing Valley, 然谷 rán gǔ), and needle with even supplementation and drainage. For copious phlegm, addST-40 (Bountiful Bulge, 丰隆 fēng lóng), andCV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), and needle with drainage.
