- Zǐ hé chē (紫河车 Hominis Placenta, placenta) 10g
- Dì huáng (地黄 Rehmanniae Radix, rehmannia [root]) 4g
- Guī bǎn (龟版 Testudinis Plastrum, tortoise plastron) 6g
- Huáng bǎi (黄柏 Phellodendri Cortex, phellodendron [bark]) 3g
- Dù zhòng (杜仲 Eucommiae Cortex, eucommia [bark]) 3g
- Rén shēn (人参 Ginseng Radix, ginseng) 2g
- Tiān dōng (天冬 Asparagi Radix, asparagus [root]) 3g
- Mài dōng (麦冬 Ophiopogonis Radix, ophiopogon [root]) 3g
- Huái niú xī (淮牛膝 Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, achyranthes [root]) 3g
- Shā rén (砂仁 Amomi Fructus, amomum [fruit]) (optional)
- Fú líng (茯苓 Poria , poria) (optional)
Action: Enriches yīn and downbears fire; boosts essence-blood; supplements the lung and kidney.

Method: Boil the (cooked) rehmannia with rice to a paste. Grind the other ingredients and blend with paste, and form into pills the size of firmiana seeds. Alternatively, make as honey pills.
Dosage: Take 80–90 pills at a time with brine or a decoction of fresh ginger. Take with wine in winter.
Rationale: Zǐ hé chē supplements qì and nourishes the blood, enriches the kidney and boosts essence. Dì huáng, Mài dōng, and Tiān dōng enrich the lung and kidney; they are used because when sufficiency of kidney water is restored, the fire is naturally restrained. Yīn vacuity commonly leads to qì vacuity, hence Rén shēn is added to boost qì (when qì is exuberant it engenders liquid). Dù zhòng and Niú xī help the Zǐ hé chē and Dì huáng to supplement the liver and kidney and strengthen the sinew and
