Indication: Yīn vacuity with effulgent fire, upbearing fire flush,
Category: Supplementing formulas / Yīn-supplementing formula
Method: Grind to a powder and form into pills with honey and pig's spine marrow.
Rationale: This formula treats all the patterns involving liver-kidney yīn vacuity treated by Liù wèi dì huáng wán (六味地黄丸 Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill), but also addresses effulgent ministerial fire. It contains large quantities of Shú dì huáng and Guī bǎn to supplement true yīn to counteract the vacuity fire. These agents are combined with Zhī mǔ and Huáng bǎi, which drain the ministerial fire and safeguard true yīn. The pig's spine marrow and honey help the Shú dì huáng and Guī bǎn to enrich yīn essence. This formula is more effective and quicker acting than Liù wèi dì huáng wán (六味地黄丸 Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill)for patterns with internal fire.
