Summerheat dysentery
暑痢 〔暑痢〕 shǔ lì
Dysentery that is attributed to summerheat and is associated with abdominal pain, generalized heat, and vacuous pulse.
Medicinal therapy: Use
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment on ST, LI, and PC. Select LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), ST-37 (Upper Great Hollow, 上巨虚 shàng jù xū), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), ST-44 (Inner Court, 内庭 nèi tíng), and LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí); needle with drainage.
Point selection according to signs: For generalized heat and vacuous pulse, add GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī) and LU-9 (Great Abyss, 太渊 tài yuān). For spontaneous sweating and heat effusion, add SI-3 (Back Ravine, 后溪 hòu xī) and HT-6 (Yīn Cleft, 阴郄 yīn xī). For thirst with desire to drink, add HT-5 (Connecting Lǐ, 通里 tōng lǐ) and KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi). For inhibited urination, add CV-3 (Central Pole, 中极 zhōng jí), KI-10 (Yīn Valley, 阴谷 yīn gǔ), SP-9 (Yīn Mound Spring, 阴陵泉 yīn líng quán), and CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi). For dysentery with bloody stool, add SP-10 (Sea of Blood, 血海 xuè hǎi), and SP-9 (Yīn Mound Spring, 阴陵泉 yīn líng quán). For incessant frequent diarrhea, add moxa at BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), and BL-25 (Large Intestine Transport, 大肠俞 dà cháng shù).
