Phlegm diarrhea

痰泻 〔痰瀉〕 tán xiè

Also phlegm accumulation diarrhea. From The Gateway to Medicine (医学入门 yī xué rù mén). Diarrhea arising when phlegm accumulating in the lung affects the large intestine through exterior-interior relationship between the two organs. Phlegm diarrhea is an intermittent form of diarrhea with the passing of sticky matter like egg-white and associated with dizziness and nausea, oppression in the chest and abdominal fullness, and a slippery stringlike pulse.

Medicinal therapy: Transform phlegm and dispel dampness with a combination of Two Matured Ingredients Decoction (二陈汤 èr chén tāng) and Stomach-Calming Powder (平胃散 píng wèi sǎn). For spleen vacuity engendering phlegm, use Bupleurum and Peony Six Gentlemen Decoction (柴芍六君子汤 chái sháo liù jūn zǐ tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on CV, ST, and SP. Select CV-13 (Upper Stomach Duct, 上脘 shàng wǎn), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), ST-40 (Bountiful Bulge, 丰隆 fēng lóng), SP-9 (Yīn Mound Spring, 阴陵泉 yīn líng quán), LU-5 (Cubit Marsh, 尺泽 chǐ zé), and LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ); needle with drainage and add moxa. For spleen vacuity engendering phlegm, add BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù) and LR-13 (Camphorwood Gate, 章门 zhāng mén), needling with supplementation and adding moxa.
