Blood goiter

血瘿 〔血癭〕 xuè yǐng

A goiter on the neck characterized by purple-red coloration of the skin and red intersecting veins. It arises when blood heat stemming from fulminant exuberance of liver fire contends with an externally contracted evil.

Biomedical correspondence: angioma of the neck.

Medicinal therapy: Enrich yīn and suppress fire; nourish the blood and transform stasis. Use Scutellaria, Coptis, Anemarrhena, and Fritillaria Pill (芩连二母丸 qín lián èr mǔ wán) or combine sargassum (Sargassum, 海藻 hǎi zǎo), clamshell (Meretricis seu Cyclinae Concha, 海蛤壳 hǎi gé ké), kelp (Laminariae seu Eckloniae Thallus, 昆布 kūn bù), alisma (Alismatis Rhizoma, 泽泻 zé xiè), pig’s thyroid gland (Suis Glandula Thyroidea, 猪靥 zhū yè), scutellaria (Scutellariae Radix, 黄芩 huáng qín), coptis (Coptidis Rhizoma, 黄连 huáng lián), and fritillaria (Fritillariae Bulbus, 贝母 bèi mǔ) with Four Agents Decoction (四物汤 sì wù tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment on TB, GB, LI, ST, SP, and LR. Needle with even supplementation and drainage at TB-13 (Upper Arm Convergence, 臑会 nào huì), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), CV-22 (Celestial Chimney, 天突 tiān tú), SI-17 (Celestial Countenance, 天容 tiān róng), LI-17 (Celestial Tripod, 天鼎 tiān dǐng), BL-17 (Diaphragm Transport, 膈俞 gé shù), and SP-10 (Sea of Blood, 血海 xuè hǎi), and with drainage at LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), LR-2 (Moving Between, 行间 xíng jiān), and GB-34 (Yáng Mound Spring, 阳陵泉 yáng líng quán).
