Properties: Salty; cold.
Channel entry: Liver and kidney channels.
Indications:
- Disperses phlegm and softens hardness: Goiter; scrofula; painful swollen testicles.
- Disinhibits water and disperses swelling: Leg qì (jiǎo qì) with puffy swelling; water swelling.
Dosage & Method: Oral: 10–15g in decoctions; also used in powders and pills.
Warnings: Hǎi zǎo is traditionally said to clash with gān cǎo (Glycyrrhizae Radix).
Quality: Large, neat pieces without foreign matter are best.
