Half-body numbness
半身麻木 〔半身麻木〕 bàn shēn má mù
Numbness of half of the body, either the left or right side or upper or lower part.
Left body numbness is due to vacuity of the blood in qì.
Medicinal therapy:
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on back transport points and CV. Select BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), BL-17 (Diaphragm Transport, 膈俞 gé shù), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), and LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng); needle with supplementation.
Right body numbness is due to vacuity of the qì in blood.

Select BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), BL-21 (Stomach Transport, 胃俞 wèi shù), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), BL-43 (Gāo-Huāng Transport, 膏肓俞 gāo huāng shù), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), SP-3 (Supreme White, 太白 tài bái), LU-9 (Great Abyss, 太渊 tài yuān), and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo); needle with supplementation and add moxa.
Upper body numbness is caused by clear yáng failing to bear upward and is treated with
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on GV and CV. Select GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ); needle with supplementation and add moxa.
Numbness and limpness up to the knees is caused by stomach damp phlegm and dead blood obstruction.
