Numbness of half of the body, either the left or right side or upper or lower part.

Left body numbness is due to vacuity of the blood in qì.

Medicinal therapy: Spleen-Returning Decoction (归脾汤 guī pí tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on back transport points and CV. Select BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), BL-17 (Diaphragm Transport, 膈俞 gé shù), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), and LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng); needle with supplementation.

Right body numbness is due to vacuity of the qì in blood.

Medicinal therapy: Use Astragalus Center-Fortifying Decoction (黄芪建中汤 huáng qí jiàn zhōng tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on back transport points and CV. Select BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), BL-21 (Stomach Transport, 胃俞 wèi shù), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), BL-43 (Gāo-Huāng Transport, 膏肓俞 gāo huāng shù), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), SP-3 (Supreme White, 太白 tài bái), LU-9 (Great Abyss, 太渊 tài yuān), and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo); needle with supplementation and add moxa.

Upper body numbness is caused by clear yáng failing to bear upward and is treated with Center-Supplementing Qì-Boosting Decoction (补中益气汤 bǔ zhōng yì qì tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on GV and CV. Select GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ); needle with supplementation and add moxa.

Numbness and limpness up to the knees is caused by stomach damp phlegm and dead blood obstruction.

Medicinal therapy: Use Four Agents Decoction (四物汤 sì wù tāng) plus ginseng (Ginseng Radix, 人参 rén shēn), cyathula (Cyathulae Radix, 川牛膝 chuān niú xī), and coix (Coicis Semen, 薏苡仁 yì yǐ rén). For lower body numbness with a forceless large gaping pulse can be treated with Eight Agents Decoction (八物汤 bā wù tāng) plus ginseng (Ginseng Radix, 人参 rén shēn).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on CV, ST, SP, and LR. Select CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), ST-40 (Bountiful Bulge, 丰隆 fēng lóng), SP-10 (Sea of Blood, 血海 xuè hǎi), LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo); needle with even supplementation and drainage.
