A form of wind-like stroke, arising when excessive liquor consumption and overeating with contraction of wind-cold or severe anger cause food to stagnate in the center, hampering the movement of stomach qì and preventing normal upbearing and downbearing. Signs include sudden clouding collapse, inability to speak, inability to move the limbs, and fullness and oppression in the chest and diaphragm.
Medicinal therapy: First make the patient drink a decoction of ginger and salt and apply mechanical ejection. Then use formulas to course evil and transform stagnation, and to rectify qì and harmonize the stomach, such as Patchouli Qì-Righting Powder (藿香正气散huò xiāng zhèng qì sǎn), Wondrous Atractylodes Powder (神朮散shén zhú sǎn), and Stomach-Calming Powder (平胃散píng wèi sǎn).
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on GV, LI, hand and foot reverting yīn (jué yīn) PC/LR, CV, and ST. Select GV-26 (Water Trough, 水沟 shuǐ gōu), GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì), PC-9 (Central Hub, 中冲 zhōng chōng), CV-12 (Center Stomach Duct, 中脘 zhōng wǎn), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), LR-2 (Moving Between, 行间 xíng jiān), BL-21 (Stomach Transport, 胃俞 wèi shù), ST-25 (Celestial Pivot, 天枢 tiān shū), CV-21 (Jade Swivel, 璇玑 xuán jī), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ); needle with drainage.
Point selection according to causes: If attributable to contraction of wind-cold, add GB-20 (Wind Pool, 风池 fēng chí), TB-5 (Outer Pass, 外关 wài guān), and LU-7 (Broken Sequence, 列缺 liè quē). When attributable to anger, add BL-18 (Liver Transport, 肝俞 gān shù), LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo).
