Category: Dampness-dispelling formulas / Heat-clearing dampness-dispelling formulas

Method: Decoct with water.

Rationale: Huáng qín is a cold bitter agent that clears heat and dries dampness. Huá shí is cold and sweet, and disinhibits water. These two agents work together to clear and disinhibit damp-heat. Fú líng, Zhū líng, and Tōng cǎo percolate dampness and disinhibit water while Dà fù pí rectifies qì and transforms dampness. These agents work on the center burner, making the damp-heat pass out in the urine. Since the formula addresses exuberance of both dampness and heat (rather than the milder condition of initial-stage damp warmth in the defense aspect), warm acrid Bái dòu kòu, which moves qì and transforms turbidity, is also used, forming a acrid opening and bitter draining combination with the Huáng qín to eliminate stubborn binding damp-heat.
