Storax Pill
苏合香丸 〔蘇合香丸〕sū hé xiāng wán

Ingredients:
- Sū hé xiāng yóu (苏合香油 Styrax , storax) 30g.
- ān xī xiāng (安息香 Benzoinum , benzoin) 60g
- Bīng piàn (冰片 Borneolum , borneol) 30g
- Shè xiāng (麝香 Moschus , musk) 45g
- Xī jiǎo (犀角 Rhinocerotis Cornu, rhinoceros horn) 60g
- Shēng xiāng fù (生香附 Cyperi Rhizoma Crudum, raw cyperus [rhizome]) 60g
- Mù xiāng (木香 Aucklandiae Radix, costusroot) (or Qīng mù xiāng[1] (青木香[1] Aristolochiae Radix, aristolochia root)) 60g
- Bì bō (荜茇 Piperis Longi Fructus, long pepper[1]) 60g
- Chén xiāng (沉香 Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, aquilaria [wood]) 60g
- Tán xiāng (檀香 Santali Albi Lignum, sandalwood) 60g
- Dīng xiāng (丁香 Caryophylli Flos, clove) 60g
- Rǔ xiāng (乳香 Olibanum , frankincense) 30g
- Bái zhú (白朮 Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, white atractylodes [root]) 60g
- Hē zǐ (诃子 Chebulae Fructus, chebule) 60g
- Zhū shā (朱砂 Cinnabaris , cinnabar) 60g
Action: Opens the orifices and repels foulness; rectifies qì and relieves pain.

Dosage: Half to 1 pill 1–2 times a day. Swallow with water.
Warnings: Because this formula is warm in nature, it should not be used in block patterns attributable to depressed heat. It is also contraindicated in
Rationale: Sū hé xiāng, ān xī xiāng, Shè xiāng, and Bīng piàn are aromatic turbidity-transforming agents that open the orifices and awaken the spirit. Xī jiǎo clears the heart and resolves toxin. Zhū shā settles the heart and quiets the spirit. These six agents all work to the common aim of opening the orifices and quieting the spirit. Tán xiāng, Dīng xiāng, Xiāng fù, Chén xiāng, Bì bō move qì and eliminate depression, as well as dispersing cold and transforming turbidity. Rǔ xiāng quickens the blood and moves stagnation. Bái zhú fortifies the spleen and transforms damp turbidity. Finally, Hē zǐ, which is warm and astringent, is added to prevent the dispersing nature of the aromatics from damaging right qì.
