Action: Repels foulness; resolves toxin; opens the orifices.
Indication:
Category: Orifice-opening formulas / Cool opening formulas
Method: Grind to a fine powder.
Dosage: Take 0.3g at a time, with water; or administer as nasal insufflation.
Rationale: Niú huáng clears the heart and resolves toxin, as well as sweeping phlegm and opening the orifices. Shè xiāng and Bīng piàn are pervasive aromatic agents that repel foulness and open the orifices. These three agents swiftly penetrate the pericardium to revive the patient. Xióng huáng repels foulness and resolves toxin, while Xiāo shí drains heat and precipitates. These two agents are commonly used for sand distension (shā zhàng). Péng shā clears heat and disperses phlegm, and breaks binds and accumulations, thereby helping the heart-clearing and foulness-repelling agents. Zhēn zhū is a heavy settler that quiets the spirit, and combined with the pervasive aromatic agents Shè xiāng and Bīng piàn it helps restore consciousness.
Notes: This formula is so named because the formula treats disorders to which troops on the march are susceptible.
Similar: Sū hé xiāng wán (苏合香丸 Storax Pill)
