Amomum Splenic Beverage
缩脾饮 〔縮脾飲〕 suō pí yǐn

Ingredients
- Shā rén (砂仁 Amomi Fructus, amomum [fruit]) 10g
- Cǎo guǒ (草果 Tsaoko Fructus, tsaoko [fruit]) 10g
- Gé gēn (葛根 Puerariae Radix, pueraria [root]) 10g
- Wū méi (乌梅 Mume Fructus, mume [fruit]) 6g
- Bái biǎn dòu (白扁豆 Lablab Semen Album, lablab [bean]) (stir-fried) 30g
- Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) (mix-fried) 3g
Actions: Warms the spleen and checks retching; clears summerheat and percolates dampness.
Indications: Yīn summerheat (i.e., summerheat-damp) with spleen damp, characterized by
Rationale: Shā rén and Cǎo guǒ are aromatic agents that transform spleen dampness, warm the spleen, and check vomiting. Bái biǎn dòu acts with Shā rén to fortify the spleen and stomach, and also to resolve summerheat and transform dampness. Gé gēn both resolves summerheat-heat and boosts stomach qì. Bboosting qì is beneficial to patients suffering from summerheat, c.f., sweet and sour yīn formation,
eliminating vexation and allaying thirst. These two agents are therefore good in the case of when vomiting causes damage to liquid or when the summerheat damages qì and yīn. Wū méi also works with Shā rén and Cǎo guǒ to check
