Wind warmth tetany

风温痉 〔風溫痙〕 fēng wēn jìng

An infantile tetany pattern attributed to contraction of wind warmth.

Medicinal therapy: When accompanied by cough, it can be treated with Mulberry Leaf and Chrysanthemum Beverage (桑菊饮 sāng jú yǐn). When there is clouded spirit and delirious speech, it is treated by opening the orifices with aroma, using Palace-Clearing Decoction (清宫汤 qīng gōng tāng) combined with Purple Snow Elixir (紫雪丹 zǐ xuě dān).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on LU, LI, GV, and LR. Select BL-13 (Lung Transport, 肺俞 fèi shù), LU-7 (Broken Sequence, 列缺 liè quē), LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), ST-44 (Inner Court, 内庭 nèi tíng), GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì), GV-16 (Wind Mansion, 风府 fēng fǔ), LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), and GV-8 (Sinew Contraction, 筋缩 jīn suō); needle with drainage.

Point selection according to signs: For high fever, add GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī), and prick Ten Diffusing Points (十宣 shí xuān) to bleed. For clouded spirit and delirious speech, add HT-7 (Spirit Gate, 神门 shén mén), and GV-26 (Water Trough, 水沟 shuǐ gōu), and prick Twelve Well Points (十二井穴 shí èr jǐng xué) to bleed. Compare acute fright wind.
