Wind warmth

风温 〔風溫〕fēng wēn

1. A warm disease due to the contraction of wind warmth evil. Wind warmth usually occurs in winter or spring. At onset, the disease is in the lung and defense, and signs include generalized heat, cough, heart vexation, and thirst, but it easily makes an abnormal passage to the pericardium causing clouded spirit, delirious speech, and tetanic reversal with convulsions.

Medicinal therapy: When the evil is in the lung and defense, apply cool acrid exterior outthrust using Lonicera and Forsythia Powder (银翘散 yín qiào sǎn), Ephedra, Apricot Kernel, Licorice, and Gypsum Decoction (麻杏甘石汤 má xìng gān shí tāng), or Thousand Gold Pieces Phragmites Decoction (千金苇茎汤 qiān jīn wěi jīng tāng). For abnormal passage to the pericardium, clear provisioning and outthrust heat, and clear the heart and open the orifices. Use Provisioning-Clearing Decoction (清营汤 qīng yíng tāng), Rhinoceros Horn and Rehmannia Decoction (犀角地黄汤 xī jiǎo dì huáng tāng), or Peaceful Palace Bovine Bezoar Pill (安宫牛黄丸 ān gōng niú huáng wán). 2. From On Cold Damage (伤寒论 shāng hán lùn), greater yáng (tài yáng) disease with thirst and absence of aversion to cold that after sweating treatment gives way to scorching hot body, spontaneous sweating, heavy body, and hypersomnia, and snoring from the nose.
