Also heat toxin; seasonal toxin. Any febrile disease attributable to contraction of warm evil and heat toxin, usually occurring in the winter or spring. Warm toxin is characterized by sudden high fever and shivering, headache, nausea, vexation and agitation, thirst, red or crimson tongue with yellow fur, and a surging rapid pulse. As it continues its development, a red swollen head and face, swollen jowls, sore swollen throat with white putrescence, or maculopapular eruptions may be observed. See also heat toxin.

Medicinal therapy: Clear heat and resolve toxin with formulas such as Universal Aid Toxin-Dispersing Beverage (普济消毒饮pǔ jì xiāo dú yǐn), Three Yellows and Gypsum Decoction (三黄石膏汤sān huáng shí gāo tāng), or Coptis Toxin-Resolving Decoction (黄连解毒汤huáng lián jiě dú tāng). If heat enters provisioning-blood, cool the blood and resolve toxin with Scourge-Clearing Toxin-Vanquishing Beverage (清瘟败毒饮qīng wēn bài dú yǐn).
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on LI, ST, and LU. Select GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī), LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), TB-5 (Outer Pass, 外关 wài guān), BL-40 (Bend Center, 委中 wěi zhōng), ST-43 (Sunken Valley, 陷谷 xiàn gǔ), and LU-10 (Fish Border, 鱼际 yú jì); needle with drainage, and prick the Twelve Well Points (十二井穴shí èr jǐng xué) to bleed. For heat entering yīn blood, add SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), SP-10 (Sea of Blood, 血海 xuè hǎi), LR-2 (Moving Between, 行间 xíng jiān), PC-7 (Great Mound, 大陵 dà líng), and HT-7 (Spirit Gate, 神门 shén mén); needle with drainage or bloodletting.
