LU-10 Fish Border

鱼际 〔魚際〕 yú jì

Alternate names: 鬼心 guǐ xīn, Ghost Heart

Channel: LU, hand greater yīn (tài yīn) lung channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the thenar eminence, midway along the radial edge of the first metacarpal bone, at the border of the red and white flesh.

Classical location: Behind the base joint of the thumb, in the depression on the inside border of the red and white flesh. From The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成 zhēn jiǔ dà chéng)

Local anatomy: Venules of the thumb draining to the cephalic vein. The superficial ramus of the radial nerve.

Action: Courses the lung and harmonizes the stomach; disinhibits the throat; clears blood heat; abates heat effusion.

Modern indications: Cough; coughing of blood; loss of voice; painful swollen throat; heat effusion.

Classical indications: Panting; expectoration of blood; dizziness; headache; fearful throbbing; heart pain; toothache; throat impediment (hóu bì); abdominal pain with inability to eat; diarrhea; malarial disease; heart vexation; jaundice; gān accumulation in infants and children; hypertonicity of the elbow and fullness in the limbs.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5‒0.7 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3 cones; pole 1‒3 min.

Needle sensation: Localized twinge and distension.

Point groups: Spring (yíng) (fire) point.
