Scrotal wind

肾囊风 〔腎囊風〕shèn náng fēng

Also kidney sac wind; bobble wind. A condition of dryness and itchiness of the scrotum relieved by bathing in hot water, and, in severe cases, with red pimples the size of millet seed, that exude fluid when scratched and are sometimes associated with scorching heat pain. Scrotal wind is caused by liver channel damp-heat pouring downward and invasion of external wind evil. It is usually difficult to cure.

Biomedical correspondence: scrotal eczema; neurodermatitis; riboflavin deficiency.

Medicinal therapy: Oral: Clear heat, dispel wind, and eliminate dampness with Gentian Liver-Draining Decoction (龙胆泻肝汤 lóng dǎn xiè gān tāng). Topical: Dab on Indigo Powder (青黛散 qīng dài sǎn) plus Three Stones Powder (三石散 sān shí sǎn) after bathing the affected area with decocted Cnidium Seed Powder (蛇床子散 shé chuáng zǐ sǎn). In persistent cases, use Chinese Wolfsbane Paste (狼毒膏 láng dú gāo).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on GV, ST, LI, SP, LR, and GB. Main points: GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī), LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí), SP-10 (Sea of Blood, 血海 xuè hǎi), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo); needle with drainage.
