Same-name channel point combination
同名经配穴法 〔同名經配穴法〕 tóng míng jīng pèi xué fǎ
Combined needling of points on the hand and foot channels with the same yīn-yáng name (e.g., the foot lesser yáng (shào yáng) gallbladder channel and the hand lesser yáng (shào yáng) triple burner channel). Combining same-name channel points is based on the rationale that the channels of the same name are linked to each other (the hand and foot yáng brightness (yáng míng) channels at the side of the nose, the hand and foot lesser yáng (shào yáng) channels at outer canthus, hand and foot greater yáng (tài yáng) channels at the inner canthus, the hand and foot greater yīn (tài yīn) channels in the chest, the hand and foot reverting yīn (jué yīn) channels in the chest, and the hand and foot lesser yīn (shào yīn) channel in the heart region).
Examples of same-channel point combinations include: LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ) and ST-41 (Ravine Divide, 解溪 jiě xī) or the yáng brightness (yáng míng) for frontal headache; TB-5 (Outer Pass, 外关 wài guān) and GB-41 (Foot Overlooking Tears, 足临泣 zú lín qì) of the lesser yáng (shào yáng) for hemilateral headache; SI-3 (Back Ravine, 后溪 hòu xī) and BL-62 (Extending Vessel, 申脉 shēn mài) for posterior headache; LU-11 (Lesser Shang, 少商 shào shāng) and SP-1 (Hidden White, 隐白 yǐn bái) of the lesser yīn (shào yīn) for mania and withdrawal; PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān) and LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng) of the reverting yīn (jué yīn) for epilepsy; and HT-7 (Spirit Gate, 神门 shén mén) and KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi) of the lesser yīn (shào yīn) for insomnia.
