Qì stagnation and blood stasis amenorrhea

气滞血瘀经闭 〔氣滯血瘀經閉〕qì zhì xuè yū jīng bì

Absence of menses attributed to qì and blood stagnation causing stagnation in the thoroughfare (chōng) and controlling (rèn) vessels and traceable either to affect damage affecting liver, heart, or spleen qì or to the cold evil.

Medicinal therapy: Rectify qì and quicken the blood; dispel stasis and free menstruation. Use House of Blood Stasis-Expelling Decoction (血府逐瘀汤 xuè fǔ zhú yū tāng) or Free Wanderer Powder (逍遥散 xiāo yáo sǎn) combined with Four Agents Decoction (四物汤 sì wù tāng) plus spatholobus (Spatholobi Caulis, 鸡血藤 jī xuè téng) and leonurus fruit (Leonuri Fructus, 茺蔚子 chōng wèi zǐ).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on CV, SP, and LR. Main points: CV-3 (Central Pole, 中极 zhōng jí), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), SP-10 (Sea of Blood, 血海 xuè hǎi), LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), and ST-29 (Return, 归来 guī lái). If qì stagnation is prominent, add CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi) and LR-2 (Moving Between, 行间 xíng jiān), needling with drainage; if blood stasis is prominent, add BL-17 (Diaphragm Transport, 膈俞 gé shù), SP-8 (Earth’s Crux, 地机 dì jī), LR-8 (Spring at the Bend, 曲泉 qū quán), and ST-30 (Qì Thoroughfare, 气冲 qì chōng), needling with even supplementation and drainage or bleeding with three-edged needle.
