Qì hiccup
气呃 〔氣呃〕qì è
Hiccup attributed to depressed qì dynamic or qì vacuity.
Center qì vacuity (中气虚 zhōng qì xū): See vacuity hiccup.
Yáng qì verging on expiration (阳气欲尽 yáng qì yù jìn): See vacuity hiccup.
Qì stagnation (气滞 qì zhì): Hiccup due to qì stagnation is characterized by continuous hiccup. It is associated with distension and oppression in the chest and rib-side, depression and anger, a thin tongue fur, and a stringlike pulse.
Medicinal therapy: Regulate qì and resolve depression. Use
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on ST, LR, and PC. Main points: Select BL-17 (Diaphragm Transport, 膈俞 gé shù), CV-17 (Chest Center, 膻中 shān zhōng), PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), and LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng). For qì stagnation, add LR-14 (Cycle Gate, 期门 qī mén), GB-34 (Yáng Mound Spring, 阳陵泉 yáng líng quán), and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo). Drain all points.
Impeded lung qì (肺气郁痹 fèi qì yù bì): Hiccup attributed to impeded lung qì is characterized frequent hiccup, attended by inhibited throat and cold face.
Medicinal therapy: Diffuse lung qì with medicinals such as loquat leaf (Eriobotryae Folium, 枇杷叶 pí pá yè), Sichuan fritillaria (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 川贝母 chuān bèi mǔ), curcuma (Curcumae Radix, 郁金 yù jīn), belamcanda (Belamcandae Rhizoma, 射干 shè gān), rice-paper plant pith (Tetrapanacis Medulla, 通草 tōng cǎo), and fermented soybean (Sojae Semen Praeparatum, 淡豆豉 dàn dòu chǐ).
Acumoxatherapy: To the main points given above add BL-13 (Lung Transport, 肺俞 fèi shù) and LU-7 (Broken Sequence, 列缺 liè quē). Drain all points.
