Properties: Bitter; cold.

Indications:

Dosage & Method: Oral: 6–10g in decoctions. When ground to a powder, it can be insufflated into the throat or applied topically.

Warnings: Use with care in pregnancy. It should not be used in the absence of repletion fire or in spleen vacuity with sloppy stool unless it is combined with warm agents to balance its cold nature.

Quality: Fat roots with yellow flesh and without fine roots attached are the best.
