LR-14 Cycle Gate
期门 〔期門〕qī mén
Alternate names: 肝募 gān mù, Liver Alarm
Channel: LR, Foot Reverting Yīn (jué yīn) Liver Channel
Modern location: An acupoint located on the chest, in the sixth intercostal space, on the midclavicular line.
Classic location: Two ribs directly below the nipple, one cùn and five fēn to the side of Not Contained (ST-19). (Zhēn Jiǔ Dà Chéng)
Local anatomy: The sixth intercostal artery and vein. The sixth intercostal nerve.
Action: Dispels evils and heat from the blood chamber; harmonizes mid-stage patterns; transforms phlegm and disperses stasis; calms the liver and disinhibits qì.
Modern indications: Distension and pain in the chest and rib-side; abdominal distension; retching and vomiting; mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng).
Classic indications: Heat in the chest; swelling of the rib-side; heart pain; running piglet (bēn tún) and abdominal hardness; malarial disease; cold damage with heat entering the blood chamber and profuse menstruation; abdominal tightness with panting; postpartum illness; inability to get food and drink down; dizzy vision.
Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.4 cùn outward oblique insertion. Moxa: 5 cones; pole 10‒20 min.
Point groups: Alarm point (mù xué) of the liver; intersection point (jiāo huì xué) of the liver and spleen channels and the yīn linking vessel (yīn wéi mài).
